위치니트크루(Witch Knit Crew)는 2018년 초 결성된 페미니스트 공예 공동체이다. 전 복적인 뜨개질을 실천하는 위치니트크루는 공동 작품을 만들어 도시 곳곳에 게릴라성 전시를 하며 공예와 여성성을 새롭게 정의한다.대표적인 작품으로 크라우드 펀딩 플랫폼을 통해 외부 참가자를 모집하여 총 57명이 100개의 조각을 엮어 완성한 태피스트리 ‘The Witches Are Here to Help’가 있다. 2020년 총선을 맞이하여 태피스트리 ‘Vote for Women’을 제작하여 국회 앞, 광화문 광장 등에 설치하고 퍼포먼스를 진행했다.
Redefining femininity through subversive craft, the women of the Witch Knit Crew aim to send out a message of solidarity through large-scale graphic crochet tapestries. The Witches are Here to Help, a collaborative piece of 3 by 4 meters, was finished by a total of 57 participants in 2018, and was installed in locations throughout the city. In early 2020 Vote for Women was knitted to promote voting for the upcoming South Korean general election. Guerilla installations and knitting performances were held in front of Noksapyeong station, the National Assembly and at Gwanghwamun Square, and were live streamed online.
정소영 Chong Soyoung
정소영은 그래픽 디자인, 여성주의와 공예를 탐구하는 마녀로서 창작, 전시와 퍼포먼스를 실행한다. 2018년부터 여성 손뜨개질 공동체 위치니트크루를 시작했다. 페미니스트 단체 페미당당의 활동가이다.
Soyoung Chong is a graphic designer, knitter, and activist based in Seoul, South Korea. She is part of feminist activist organization Femidangdang.
Since 2018 she has investigated the interlacing of craft and femininity with crochet community Witch Knit Crew (@witchknitcrew). She holds a B.F.A in Visual Communication Design from Seoul National University.
